Congratulations to the following 14 students who won or placed high enough to be a state conference qualifier: Ashley Atkinson, Lisa Bigott, Steven Ficocello, Erika Kukuk, Hannah Larsen, Michelle Law, Nicole Lemmer, Nicki Opdahl, David Perez, Dan Schommer, Samantha Simpson, Kim Swenson, Kristy Verhey, and Bryce Wilkerson.
Over 350 students from nine other local schools attended and competed against each other in a variety of business and marketing simulation events. Some of the events include sales demonstrations, case study role plays, public speaking, advertising campaigns, and marketing plans for businesses.
By finishing in the top eight of their events, students qualify for the DECA State Competitive Events Conference in March. At the state conference, winners from all six Minnesota districts get together and compete for the opportunity to move on to the National Conference in Dallas.
After all of the hard work the first day, students had some free time and enjoyed a hypnotist and Space Jam dance and relaxing by the pool.
A special thanks from Business Teacher and DECA Advisor Tim Turnquist and all marketing students at Chisago Lakes High School to Erin Thorvaldson (Coldwell Banker Burnet), Josh Fagan (Coldwell Banker Burnet), Denise Atkinson (Keller Williams Realty), Kandy Moen (Health Dimensions Rehabilitiation), Susan Merritt (Pine Tech College), Shellee Videen (Hugo Dental Care), and Lynn Wilkerson (Fairview), for volunteering their time as judges this year.
In addition this year, several local businesses made donations to students to help cover conference registration costs.
Thank you so much to the following businesses for your support: Bruce Fagan and Associates, China Panda Restaurant, Family Affair Hair Care Center, Lakes Hair Design, Lindstrom Optical, Lindstrom Hardware, Apex Auto Parts, and Lindstrom Bakery.
