I trust that you and yours were glued to the overly hyped, commercially driven Super Bowl on Sunday. I was sucked into the hype, mainly for lack of something better to do. The quality of play on the field was pretty much up to par (or should I say not up to par) for the Super Bowl. I think that the quality of play and the time off between the last playoff games and the Super Bowl are directly related. I am not a fan of either team, but I really think the officials did everything they could to help the Steelers pull out a victory.

On the subject of commercials, I thought they were fairly funny but definitely less risky than in years past. I thought the Fed Ex commercial was probably the most entertaining of the bunch. There are always a few that leave you wondering what were they just advertising?

We have only received a few photos for our Celebration of the Lakes photo contest. There have to be some neat photos out there that you would like to share with the community. Come on, send them in, what’s the worst thing that could happen...you could possibly win a cash prize and have your photo on the button for next year’s celebration.

We also have received our first logo entry in the Search logo contest. I know there are a lot of creative people out there in our community, so why not show the public how creative you can be? The winner of the logo contest (look for ad in this paper) will be awarded a cash prize along with their design being proudly displayed on the front of the Search each and every week. The first entry we received looked absolutely great and we look forward to seeing some of your logo work, too.

I see that the first-ever face transplant recipient finally had a press conference to talk about her ordeal. Can you believe how far we have come in the medical field? You have to believe that a cure for cancer has got to be (fingers crossed) just around the corner. The one thing that rubs me the wrong way about this face transplant is that she supposedly has not and will not give up smoking. The doctors have said that her new face would have a much greater chance of success if she could just give up the Camels, but she apparently has said no thanks. I think if I were the doctor, I would personally ask her to return the face so that it could be transplanted on someone who would appreciate it more.
