Two Chisago Lakes football stars earn all-state honors
Trevor Johnson was named to the Star Tribune’s All-Metro Second Team, the Pioneer Press’ All-State Second Team and the AP Minnesota All-State Second Team.
C.J. Hoffman was named Pioneer Press All-State Honorable Mention and AP Minnesota All-State Honorable Mention.
Both players deserve the accolades, according to Wildcat head football coach Bill Weiss.
TREVOR JOHNSON
“We don’t pass much, but the passing game we do have is centered around the tight end,” said Weiss. “Trevor is tall and has great hand-eye coordination. Even more important than his receiving ability was his blocking ability. Trevor’s ability to block effectively at the point of attack or in the secondary was key to our ability to run the ball so well this past season. After our game against Spring Lake Park, where Trevor was responsible for a significant portion of our offense, the opposing coaches commented about how impressed they were with Trevor’s play,” Weiss stated.
Johnson also plays basketball and baseball for the Wildcats. He plans to play football in college next season. He’s looking at a number of schools and is thinking of studying law enforcement.

C.J. HOFFMAN
“C.J. was the heart and soul of our offense,” said Weiss. “He’s a great runner. In our offense, we usually try to distribute the ball to several different players, but we gave it to C.J. a lot this year because you need to showcase a player like him when you have the opportunity. He’s a physical, tough player who got better as each game wore on. He ranks right up there with other great Chisago Lakes running backs of the past, like Aaron James, Danny Reed and Brad Schneider. And though I knew C.J. had a lot of potential, at the beginning of the season I’m not sure I would have believed that C.J. would be the conference’s leading rusher.”
Hoffman, who played some defensive end along with his duties as a running back, plays defense for the Wildcat hockey team. He’d like to play football at a Minnesota or Wisconsin college next season and would also like to go into law enforcement.
