North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Head Baseball Coach Todd Rima has announced that Trojan centerfielder Danny Reed has signed a Division I national letter of intent to play baseball at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL.

Reed, from Chisago Lakes High School in Lindstrom, MN, is the second Trojan to sign with the Huskies in the past two years. He joins thirdbaseman Jesse Seykora, who is currently playing for NIU.

Reed, hit .404 with 3 home runs and 41 RBI for the Trojans as a freshmanlast spring. He earned second team All-Region honors.

“I am very proud of Danny and excited for him, too. He was a very special kid to coach in high school baseball and was a great player, but an even nicer young man,” said Chisago Lakes High School baseball coach Pat Collins.

“Danny has the ability to hit with some power, run and play right away for us. He’s a quality kid from a quality family and he’s going to be a good player,” said Northern Illinois University head baseball coach Ed Mathey.

Reed is the son of David and Kathy Reed of Lindstrom.

NIACC opens the 2006 season Saturday, March 4 against Oakton CC in the Metrodome.
