The annual Home Show has come and gone. With the exception of Sunday morning, the attendance seemed to be up quite a bit from last year. The inclement weather didn’t help much on Sunday but all in all, I would say it was a great show. The Chisago Lakes Community Ed and the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce did a wonderful job as usual. Many thanks go out to Brenda, Kelly, Denise, Bob J., Bob Meyer, and all their staff for their hard work that went into making this year’s show a success.

If you registered for a drawing at the Home Show, be sure to check in this edition of the Press for a complete listing of all the winners. Then contact the Chamber at 651-257-1177 to find out how to claim your prize.

It appears that we will be extending our deadline for a new Search logo contest. We have received some good ones so far, but we would like to have some more to choose from. So come on people, let those creative juices flow. Send your logo to: Chisago County Press attn: Search Logo Contest, P.O. Box 748, Lindstrom, MN 55045.

On Monday the state of Minnesota lost a legend. Kirby Puckett passed away in Arizona from complications due to a stroke. Kirby will forever go down in Minnesota and national sports history as one of the greatest athletes of all time. I have never seen someone with more love of a game and passion towards everyone than Kirby. Certainly his stout little body made him even more appealing to the average Joe. One of my favorite childhood coaches once said “ If you are going to model yourself after someone, who better than Kirby Puckett?”. The funny thing is that person was my basketball coach, not baseball. Despite Kirby’s domestic problems which shouldn’t be over looked, he still meant as much to Minnesota sports as anyone ever. Who hasn’t jumped up along their yard fence and snagged a baseball from being a home run?
