A 1967 graduate, Jeff Barott helped the Chi Hi (Lindstrom, Center City, and Shafer) Basketball Team achieve the goals of conference and district champions. In the district championship game he had 24 rebounds and scored a school record 44 points. This was done prior to the 3-point shot. Averaging 33.3 points per game, he was named to the District 25 All-Tournament Team.
Jeff went on to play college basketball for the St. Cloud State Huskies. During a game, he set a school record by shooting 100% field goals, making all 11 of the baskets that he shot. Jeff also ranks 20th all-time career scorer at St. Cloud State.
During college, Jeff met his future wife, a cheerleader for the basketball team. They married in 1972 and had 2 children. After graduating from college, they moved back to the Chisago Lakes area where Jeff became active in the community. Jeff was diagnosed with cancer in 1989 and died in 1991 at the age of 42.
Helping his team achieve its goals developed an “I can do” attitude in Jeff and he pursued the rest of his life with vitality and determination to be the best he could be.
