By incorporating new opportunities for the middle school-level student, the amount of time taken up through a study hall was decreased. These new course offerings kept our students engages in learning throughout the full day.
The middle school is looking to add additional electives for the 2006-07 academic school year by introducing a foreign language – Spanish I, developing an Advanced Industrial Technology course and creating an Advanced Lifetime Fitness course for our program.
Chisago Lakes Middle School is in the process of developing a new student advisory program called CORE Connect. Students will spend 23 minutes every day with other students within their CORE groups, along with their CORE teachers who will serve as the advisors.
A committee of teachers from across all disciplines has been established and is in the planning stages of designing the framework. Specific days will be devoted to various topics with incorporation of a yearly theme. Cores will be asked to pursue a service project as a means of giving back to the greater Chisago Lakes community.
Middle school advisory programs can play an essential part in nurturing the culture of a school and personalize a school in a systematic way. The goal of this new endeavor will be to engage our students and ensure their success.
The middle school will continue to move forward with our yearly traditions of providing educational opportunities to enhance our core curricula. These include the annual Wolf Ridge Environmental Camp for our sixth graders, the Youth Frontiers Day retreat for our seventh graders and the Youth Health Day for our eighth graders.
All of these grade level programs provide educational skills essential to the middle school-level learner and are enhanced by the hundreds of community and parent volunteers who have given their time and energy to make these programs available to our kids.
There is an open invitation for you to visit Chisago Lakes Middle School. We are proud of our students, our staff and our accomplishments and appreciate your support.
