“To the best of my knowledge,” said Wildcats head coach Beth Carlson, “that’s the first time Danielle has competed in the two mile race. She’s a fearless competitor.” Two other Wildcats placed in the two mile, with Becca Schmidt finishing fourth and Andrea Olson coming in fifth.
In the 4X800, Kristin Tengwall posted her best split of the year at 2:38. And Kara Orwoll ran her split in 2:32. She matched that time in the 800 meter individual race to take third in that event.
Linnea Osterberg did well in the triple jump, finishing fifth with a jump of over 30 feet. But Osterberg also did well in a sprint off in practice, allowing her to compete as a member of the 4X100 relay team. And that team posted its best time of the season at 54.89 seconds.
Senior Alise Bowie came in second in the discus at 103’4.5”, beating her personal best by nearly 20 feet. Brenna Coyle unleashed her best throw of the year to come in third, 18 inches behind Bowie. “This is Bowie’s first year in track,” said Carlson, “so she’s only been throwing the discus for a short time.”
The Wildcats also won two places in the shot put, with Coyle coming in second and Kim Johnson earning fourth place.
Freshman Simone Raedeke finished fifth in the 300 meter hurdles, beating her personal best by over three seconds. Other Wildcats to place included Laura Biersach, third in the 100 meter hurdles; Tara Wilson, fourth in the high jump; and the Wildcats’ second entry in the 4X800 meter race, Andrea Brelje, Mel Lewis, Makayla Grote and Becca Schmidt, who finished third.
The Wildcat girls had one athlete, Brenna Coyle, compete in the Hamline Elite Meet Friday, April 28. Coyle finished seventh in the shot put at Hamline.
The Wildcats were scheduled to travel to St. Louis Park Tuesday, May 2 for a quadrangular against St. Francis, Benilde-St, Margaret’s and St. Louis Park. This Friday, May 5, the Wildcats host six other teams in the Chisago Lakes Invitational. The meet gets underway at 3:30 p.m.
