Viking girl golfers go to 4-1 in NSC - Play in Purple Hawk Invitational
Players from 19 teams braved the cold weather and various forms of precipitation, liquid and solid, at the Purple Hawk Invitational Monday, April 24. After more than five hours in the less-than-perfect conditions, the Vikings recorded a 426, good enough for seventh place.
Centennial won the team championship with a 374. Duluth Marshall, behind medalist Lisa Moline’s 81, was next with a 377.
Amy Aho’s 97 led the Vikings and earned her a medal for ninth place, individually. Despite fighting illness, Lacee Scherer managed a 101 for the Vikes. Junior Kelsey Johnson was next with a 110. She struggled on the front nine, but shot a 52 on the tough back side. Eighth grader Katie Foley completed the scoring with a 118. Hope Chenevert (128) and Jeni Farr (130) also played for the Vikings.
The girls played in very difficult conditions with few complaints. This was the Vikings’ first 18 hole competition of the season. That, combined with the difficult weather conditions, took a lot of the fun out of the tournament. They should be complimented for their performance.
