CL 6, North Branch 1

The Chisago Lakes tennis team played a young North Branch Viking team Tuesday, April 25 in North Branch.  The result was a 6-1 Wildcat conference win.

“The team got out to a quick start and didn't give North Branch a chance to get back in the match,” said Wildcat head coach Steve Otte. “North Branch put up a good battle at one singles and the match went three long sets.  The number two doubles team had fun putting many overheads away against their opponents.”

1S Luke Spehar lost in three sets

2S Joe Knafla won 6-0, 6-0

3S Matt Carpenter won 6-1, 6-0

4S David Carlson won 6-0, 6-1

1D CJ Hoffman/Nick Peterson won 6-0, 6-0

2D Mark Eagan/Scott Leigh won 6-0, 6-0

3D Ryan Germain/Sam Ryan won 6-1, 6-0

CL 4, Totino Grace 3

The Wildcats picked up another NSC win at home April 27 with a 4-3 win over the Eagles of Totino Grace.

“This was a close match from the start,” said Otte.  “All the set scores were close and momentum was switching all the time.  Mark Eagan and Scott Leigh, at second doubles, kept the pressure on by attacking the net all meet long.”  

The score was tied at two apiece with three matches still unfinished. Totino went up 3-2 by winning at first doubles 6-4, 6-4.  

“Joe Knafla stepped up and beat his opponent in two sets to tie the score again at three points all.  Matt Carpenter, at third singles, was now the only match left on the court.   Matt was up 6-5 in the third set and served a strong game to close out the match,” the coach added.
