Swanberg's record breaking run propels Wildcats to third place in home meet
Swanberg ran the 200 in 22.3 seconds, erasing a 24 year old Chisago Lakes school record of 22.6 seconds. The old record was set by Jim Luff in 1982 and equaled by Robert Ostman in 1987. “Christian had a good start,” said Wildcat head coach Ken Orwoll. “He ran the corner well, came out the turn just flying and never let up. And he got to do it in front of the home crowd.” Wildcat Karl Jung came in fourth in the 200.
The coach continued, “Swanberg and Brian Jennissen were both outstanding in the 100, finishing third and fourth. Sophomore Zach Lukas ran a nice leg in the four by 100 meter relay. It’s nice to see some of the kids stepping up. The four by 400 was a good race for us. Even though we only finished fifth, we improved our season time by 18 seconds. The four by 200 meter relay team had a good day, as well, finishing in first place,” Orwoll said.
Orwoll was pleased with his team’s performance in the field events. “Our shot and discus throwers had a great day. Taylor Lindeman had a lifetime personal best of 44 feet, 8.5 inches in the shot put. Taylor also finished third in the discus. Jeff MacKinnon earned points in the shot put and Justin Helps earned points in the discus. The pole vaulters, Dan Sandgren and Brad Reineccius, both got points for us. And Chris Golv finished fifth in the high jump and fourth in the long jump.”
“There were some great races in this competition, said Orwoll. “No one team was dominant in everything, which makes for an interesting event.”
