North Branch at Fridley
The Vikings took on the Tigers at the National Youth Golf Center in Blaine looking for a chance to improve on their earlier performance at the course (April 18 against Irondale).
Against Irondale, nobody on the team was happy with the team’s total of 211 strokes. The Vikings exacted a little revenge on the Victory Links golfcourse by recording its lowest score in six years with a 182.
The girls were all smiles after the meet. The smiles on the faces of juniors Kelsey Johnson and Amy Aho were visible from 200 yards away. That was understandable since both recorded all-time personal low 41’s to lead their team to a 182- 239 win over the Tigers. Jeni Farr’s 50 was her best of the year and her grin was hard to hide, as well.
The Vikings hope that this performance will serve as a springboard to vault them to good scores in the upcoming North Suburban Conference and Section 7AA Tournaments.

Spring Lake Park at NB
Spring Lake Park showed why it’s undefeated in the NSC by beating the Vikings 193-210 at North Branch. The Vikings could not match their own outstanding performance at Victory Links a day earlier.
The highlight for the Vikings was the second consecutive strong showing by Kelsey Johnson, who had struggled until the last few meets. She struck the ball well and played better than her 52 would indicate. Amy Aho led the Vikings with a 49.
The temperature dropped from 50 to 46 during the meet and the gusty northwest winds made it feel a lot colder. However, the girls didn’t use the weather as an excuse and are confident that they have the skills to do well in the rest of the season.
The girls were not happy with their individual scores or the team total. It’s a healthy sign that they now believe they are capable of doing better.
