After playing its best golf in several seasons in a 156-170 win over Cooper, the North Branch boys’ golf team suffered a 155-182 defeat at the hands of Benilde-St. Margaret’s May 2.

In the meet, played at Meadowbrook Golf Course, Travis Peterson’s 43 was low for the Vikings. However, five BSM golfers came in with scores of 40 or less, including medalist John Brooks’ 37, for the easy win.

North Branch at Fridley

May 10

The last time the Vikings played at the National Youth Golf Course (Victory Links), they fell to Irondale 179-186. Their second trip to the NYGC was for a meet with the Fridley Tigers. This time, they played on the other nine.

The North Branch score was better (182) but Fridley played its best round of the year (164) as it handed the Vikings their third consecutive loss.

“I was hoping for 170,” said North Branch head coach Tom Moriarty, “but, we just didn’t play very well. Sure, they played their best meet. But we can’t rely on the other team to play poorly. We need to play better.”

Spring Lake Park at NB

May 11

Coach Moriarty was pressed to put a positive spin on his team’s 166-186 loss to Spring Lake Park. After some thought he said, “Mike Dahl had an outstanding round. He had a career best 42. Unfortunately, he was playing in the JV meet, so we couldn’t use his score.”
