Chisago Lakes girls track team place 9th despite hurdler Laura Biersach best career time
Laura Biersach finished second in the 100 meter hurdles in 17.02 seconds, her best time of the year. “I’m really proud of Laura,” said Wildcat head coach Beth Carlson. Brenna Coyle came in fifth in the discus and fourth in the shot put. “Brenna did great and earned some points for us, but she’s not satisfied with her own performance,” said Carlson. “With sections coming up, she wants to get everything together soon.” Kim Johnson finished sixth in the shot put and, Carlson said, “was happy with her performance.” The 4x100 team of Linnea Osterberg, Biersach, MacKenzie Maher and Shana Meath came in third. “Shana is the only true individual event sprinter on our four by 100 team,” said Carlson. “The girls did a great job nailing the handoffs and ran well to finish third.”
Carson summed up her thoughts; “We’re a small fish in a big conference pond. Some of these schools bring over twice as many athletes as we do to meets. But it’s great to face the higher level of competition in the new conference – we have to fight for everything now.”
Carlson and her team are looking forward to the section tournament, which will be at North Branch this year. The preliminaries and a few finals take place this Saturday, May 27. The rest of finals are next Wednesday, May 31.
