CL track team produces impressive individual results
Christian Swanberg finished second to Tyler Bucholz of Robbinsdale Cooper in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. “Christian got off to a bad start in the preliminaries for the 100,” said Wildcat head coach Ken Orwoll. “He had to catch a lot of people from behind and was happy when they called off his name for the finals. He didn’t get off to a great start in the finals, either, but finished very well. In the 200, he and Bucholz ran hard through the corner and left the rest of the field behind. Bucholz ended up winning by a half second, though – he’s just that good. All in all, Christian had a good day.”
The 4x200 of Chris Golv, Brian Jennissen, Blane Maher and Swanberg finished fourth and had their best time of the year, 1:34.02. “They did well even though a couple of the handoffs weren’t top notch,” said Orwoll. “If they can improve their handoffs, they can be successful at sections and have a legitimate chance to go to the state tournament.”
Golv finished second in the long jump with a lifetime personal best of 20’7”. “He did that on preliminary day,” said Orwoll. “He was leading till Dennis Carter beat him by one inch on Carter’s last jump of the day.” And Andy Olness finished third in the triple jump. “Andy came out on Thursday raring to go,” said Orwoll, “and had an excellent jump. When he’s on in the triple jump, he’s really fun to watch.” Chisago Lakes ended up in ninth place in the 10 team meet.
The section tournament is at North Branch this year. The preliminaries and a few finals take place this Saturday, May 27. The rest of finals are next Wednesday, May 31. “Sections are what you’re shooting for,” said Orwoll. “There are some really good track schools in our section, but we should have a lot more people placing in a variety of events at the section tournament.”
