Lauren Koch moved up from seventh in the preliminaries to second in the 200 I.M. and finished third in the 500 free. The first two finishers usually qualify for the state, but Koch’s third place 500 free time was good enough to move her on to state. Emily Stein took second in both the 50 free and 100 free to qualify.
“Our 400 freestyle relay team won to also qualify. That relay has Koch, Andrea Olson, Leah Secord and Stein on it,” Wakefield added.
“Milaca beat us pretty good but we did give them a scare. After the 500, we had their lead down to five points. But they had four breastrokers in the finals, so I knew we did not have a chance,” the coach concluded.
The girls who qualified will compete in the State Meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The State Meet begins Monday, November 20.
