CL swimmers take on tough Benilde team
Stein and Dery bring home firsts against fast Red Knights
Only Angie Dery and Emily Stein were fast enough to earn first place finishes for the Wildcats. Dery won the 100 backstroke in 1:11.75 to earn six points for her team. Stein picked up six points in the 50 freestyle by finishing in 26.91. Stein’s finish in the 100 freestyle (58.39) was fast enough to give her a second.
Other Wildcat individual seconds came from Lauren Koch in the 200 IM (2:28.23) and the 500 feeestyle (5:55.08) and Ana Peltier in diving (194.55).
The 200 medley relay team (Dery, Stein, Koch and Leah Secord) took second in 2:06.75. The team’s other second place came from Stein, Andrea Olson, Secord and Koch (4:03.91) in the 400 freestyle relay. Their time was only .02 behind the Red Knight team.
Secord was third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:15.56. The 200 freestyle relay team (Heidi Willhite, Brogen Lee, Olson and Laura Greene) was also third in 1:57.81.
Olson picked up points for fourth in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly as did Alex Thomsen for diving, Secord in the 100 freestyle and Maddie Coulter in the 100 breast stroke.
Wildcat head coach Ed Wakefield had no excuses for the defeat but did comment, “What can I say besides Benilde is really fast.”
The Wildcats’ next meet is at Columbia Heights Thursday, October 26 at 6 p.m.
