“We had a great first two games and an amazing comeback in the fourth,” said CL head coach Nicole DeVries. “We were down by nine points at one time in the fourth game and came back to win it. That showed amazing courage and passion and heart. I was so proud of how they played. It was a total team effort.”
The team served 87 percent to spark the offense and the defense began with 89 percent of its digs. “Morgan (Baumgard) was hot in the backcourt and led the team with 90 percent dig and serve receive. She is a super team captain - keeping the team upbeat, setting the tone for the match and really being an encouragement, both by her words and example,” DeVries continued.
“Kayla also made a difference in the back row with 89 percent passing. Courtney Fautsch and Kristen (Tengwall), our setters, were terrific - helping to give us an 81 percent attack percentage,” the coach added.
Chisago Lakes will play in the Big Lake tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 16, before hosting Mahtomedi Monday (Sept. 18) and St. Louis Park (Sept. 19). Both events start at 7:00 in the CL gym.
