Monday, September 18, the ‘Cats beat Mahtomedi in four games (25-22, 21-25, 25-12, 27-25). “We came off of a full weekend of volleyball, so our legs were a little tired,” said Wildcat head coach Nicole DeVries. “But, we proved we could overcome the tiredness with teamwork, focus and having fun.”
Tuesday, the Wildcats entertained St. Louis Park. CL won 25-13, 25-20, 25-19. “This was a great conference win for us,” DeVries said. “We played very solid all around. Our passing and serving were nearly flawless. Jaime Tschida served 24/25 in the match for 96 percent. We attacked the ball well and communicated great on the court. It was a lot of fun to win two matches in a row at home.”
The Wildcats got their second home, three-game NSC win of the week with a 25-14, 25-16, 27-25 win over St. Francis on Thursday, September 21.
“This was a great win for us. Not only was it a conference match, St. Francis is usually a monkey on our backs. It was fun to take that monkey off, so to speak. The match was very high energy, with the crowd getting really involved. We played just fantastic and I was so proud of our effort.”
The coach added, “It had been a busy week and I know we were tired, but we were prepared, we were focused, and we were ready to leave it all on the court. This is right where we want to be at this point in the season. We are really stepping it up and staying focused and playing like a team. We are trusting one another and are a great encouragement to one another. It is really fun to be a part of this program.”
The Wildcats continue their NSC season tonight (September 28) when they host Columbia Heights at 7 p.m.
