Richard "Dick" Carroll, of Center City, died Friday, April 6, 2007, as the result of an auto accident at the age of 78.

Dick was born July 28, 1928, to Thomas and Catherine Carroll in St. Paul. He attended Humboldt High School. He served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Corps, from 1946 to 1949.

September 17, 1949, he married his wife, Rose at St. Jude of the Lake Church in Mahtomedi. He retired from the St. Paul Fire Department after 28 years service.

Dick was active in the communities that he lived, believing in the strength of volunteering in the organizations that he belonged. Those organizations were the VFW, WWII Submarine Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Submarine Veterans Inc., Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts of America Indian Council Troops 361 and 461, St. Paul Winter Carnival Vulcans, City of St. Paul Parks and Open Spaces Board. He received many honors through these organizations. Dick was VFW State Commander 1988-1989, 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Silver Beaver and St. George Awards from the Boy Scouts, and a number of Navy commendations.

He was an avid fan of the Vikings and Gophers, loved to travel with his wife Rose, explore submarines, and spend time with his family. Dick's true hobby though was helping others. He spent a lifetime caring for everyone who crossed his path.
