The Wildcats finished the season with 20 dual meet wins and will return next season with a solid core of wrestlers. Even though the Wildcats didn't make it to the state tournament as a team, there were a number of individual accomplishments to celebrate.

Senior Mitch Anderson won the section and went to the state tournament. Wildcat head coach Shawn Frederixon said "It's a lot of fun to have a guy go to the state tournament and watch him wrestle." Anderson also reached the 100-win plateau for his career. He finished with 103 wins, which is ninth all-time for the Wildcats.

John Hogie broke the single-season record for near falls with 51, smashing the old record of 45, set by Brian Better in 2000.

Derek Silbernagel, with a 7-1 conference record, was All-Conference as a sophomore. Said Frederixon, "He's the first sophomore from Chisago Lakes to win All-Conference in wrestling. It's fun to have him coming back."

The "fun" awards (listed - Turkey Toss MVP, Bowling MVP, Lexvold Pizza, Granby Appetizer and "Mann") - are meant to lighten things up during the wrestling season. The contests are competitive, but the players get a good laugh out of them, too.

This season will always be remembered as the season that was shut down for 10 days to prevent the spread of a virus. A few matches were cancelled as the result of the shutdown, or the Wildcats likely would have surpassed their record-setting 22 match wins from last year. Some wrestlers probably would have broken some single-season records, as well.

Frederixon is still pleased with the season. "We had a lot of unknowns coming into this year," he said. "But I saw our wrestlers rise to the occasion over and over and over, as our record showed. We're losing some valuable seniors, but I'm excited about what's coming back. They've already proved they can 'go.'"
