CL Columbia Heights 7-0

The Chisago Lakes tennis team started the season with a 7-0 win over Columbia Heights at the CLHS courts Tuesday, April 10.

"The Wildcats came out and took control of the match from the start," said Wildcat head tennis coach Steve Otte. "I wasn't sure how we would do with how the weather has been this spring.  Most of our practices have been indoors working on volleying.  That has probably helped us because the guys did a great job getting to the net and ending points by placing their volleys to smart spots on the court."

Meet Summary -

Coach's Comments

1st Singles - Joe Knafla won 6-2, 6-0.  Joe did a great job keeping the ball low and coming to the net.  This forced his opponent to hit up so Joe could end the points at the net.

2nd Singles - Matt Carpenter won 6-0, 6-0.  Matt played a nice match.  He has a few things that he needs to stay focused on while playing.  Matt likes to just crush the ball, but there are times in a match where he needs to think and use some smarter shots to stay in the point.

3rd Singles - Kyle Hogie won 6-0, 6-0.  Kyle did a nice job coming to the net during his match.  Kyle has a very nice drop volley shot that he can use once he gets to the net.  He likes singles and I think he may have found his spot in the lineup.

4th Singles - David Carlson won 6-0, 6-0.  David is a nice fit for this spot because he does a great job of keeping the ball in play.  He keeps his ground strokes deep and this will help him a lot.

1st Doubles - Scott Leigh and Mark Eagan won 6-0, 6-0.  These guys played well today.  They played second doubles last year and look to be a great fit at first.  When these guys have their serves going, they are going to be really tough to beat.

2nd Doubles Jacob Spehar and Mike Zvonar won 6-0, 6-0.  This pair did a nice job coming to the net and ending points fast.  They have not played much together so it was nice to see them close this match out fast.

3rd Doubles Matt Jorgenson and Jeremy Patterson won 6-0, 6-1.  These two have the makings for a good doubles team.  They need to remember that, at this point, their matches will be won by playing consistent tennis and not power tennis.
