The Chisago Lakes Area has sadly lost yet another legendary icon. Quinten Rossow passed away last Saturday at the age of 79. Many of you who are relatively new to the area might not recognize the name, but if you have ever been to a Chisago Lakes High School sporting event, you would most definitely recognize his face. Quinten has been a school bus driver and more importantly an activity school bus driver for what seems like two hundred years.

Always smiling, you could count on hearing Quinten telling kids to "hang in there" or "don't worry we'll get em' next time kiddo." Quinten had a sense of humor that was sometimes edgy and was always backed up with a bellowing laugh that usually made other people laugh. Yep, the games are going to seem a little bit emptier and a lot quieter...

I have had a few phone calls recently asking if I knew of a map of the area that was being printed. The caller usually identifies themselves as a legitimate sounding business and then tells the caller that they are working with the County Press to put out the map. If this person has contacted you, please do not send them money. Not only are they not working with the Press, they are a total scam that will run off with any money they can get. Usually around this time and into the summer some of these parasites work their way into our area. I apologize for them connecting the County Press in any way to their thievery. If you are contacted and you are just not sure if it is legit, please give us a call. We are pretty well connected or know about most poster, calendar, or other promotions that are taking place in our area.

This week I plan on testing my inner fortitude. I for some reason have waited until the ripe age of 38 to finally have my wisdom teeth removed. The dentist has told me since I was 18 to "make sure and get those out sooner than later." To which I replied, "Let's see, they don't hurt, you want to cut me open, and stuff my mouth with cotton?" "No thanks, not today, this guy is crazy."

Well, here I am 20 years later going on my third infection due directly to my wisdom teeth, and I am scheduling surgery to remove them. All I keep thinking is the oral surgeon telling me I was "crazy" for not getting them out earlier. What is in our genes that makes us tune out our elders when we are young and then appreciate them so much later in life?

Our annual subscription renewal campaign will soon be at its conclusion. All subscriptions are due by May 1 of each year. If you have not already done so, please renew your subscription today. You can do so by returning the blue renewal card you recently received with your payment or you can use the handy form found at the top of Page 2. We appreciate everyone's support and will strive to improve this newspaper with every edition.
