PBIS is an individual and ongoing procedure using "pro-social" development, rather than a discipline program based on punishment. Staff members are able to state and use expectations and are to interpret them uniformly. Expected student behaviors are taught directly and are acknowledged regularly and positively building-wide.
Site teams have been established at all Chisago Lakes area schools to assess individual building issues/concerns and identify strategies to implement positive behavior incentives for all students. Their function is to continuously gather information from staff, parents and students and to summarize this data. The overall objective of data sharing is to assist schools in re-designing and to support the teaching/learning environments that are effective, efficient and relevant.
Effective, positive behavior intervention systems are not just about behavior. Research has proven that investing in outcomes, data and evidence based practices have a direct effect in increasing student achievement and competency. Most significantly, it creates a positive, respectful, predictable and trusting school environment that is important to all students.
