Wildcat wrestlers pin losses on Zimmerman, Rockford, St. Cloud Tech and Fridley
Chisago Lakes 54, Rockford 25
The Wildcats took advantage of two squads lacking in numbers, beating Zimmerman 51-25 and cruising past Rockford 54-25 Tuesday, December 11 at the Zimmerman Triangular.
Wrestling against Zimmerman, the Wildcats were granted six forfeits. Mike Michaelson (125) and Clay Olson (171) won their matches by pins. Rockford forfeited at four weights. Michaelson and Olson again came through with pins, joined by teammates Travis Kammerer (140), Derek Silbernagel (160) and Troy Montague (215).
"Both teams were tough at the weights at which they actually had wrestlers," said Wildcat head coach Shawn Frederixon. "But, they just had too many forfeits."

CL 42 St. Cloud Tech 33
Troy Montague's (215-pounder) 50th career pin broke a 33-33 tie, and 285-pounder Tony Gall's overtime victory sealed the win as the Wildcats survived their toughest test of the week, beating St. Cloud Tech 42-33 last Friday, December 14 at the Chisago Lakes Triangular.
Pao Thao (112) and Mike Michaelson (125) pinned their opponents to tie the match at 12-12 after four weights. The Wildcats lost four of the next five matches to fall behind 33-15. But, Derek Silbernagel (160), Clay Olson (171) and Dylan Hoyt (189) each pinned their opponents less than a minute into their matches to tie the score at 33-33.
Montague then gave the Wildcats the lead with his milestone pin before Gall's win assured the Wildcats of victory. "Tony's win at the end was pretty exciting," said Wildcat head coach Shawn Frederixon. "It had the whole crowd up on their feet."
"The last five weights really came through for us," continued Frederixon. "We got four pins in a row, and Dylan and Troy came from behind to get their pins. Troy's 50th career pin is a big number and a pretty impressive milestone to reach in a high school wrestling career."

Chisago Lakes 63, Fridley 18
Eight Wildcats pinned their opponents as CL sailed to a 63-18 win over the outmanned Fridley Tigers in their match at the Chisago Lakes Triangular Friday, December 14.
"We overpowered them," said Wildcat head coach Shawn Frederixon. "Quade Zupko got his first career pin tonight, and it's always fun for a kid to get his first pin. In fact, we had a lot of fast, exciting pins tonight. It's great for our fans when we're the ones doing the pinning. We have the potential to be pretty good this year. We just have to be consistent. That sounds like a cliché, but consistency is something that a young team like ours can achieve as it matures throughout a season."
