Local snowboarder advances to national competition
Gilman is no stranger to the Next Snow Search. In 2006, Easton was a competitor at the All-Stars event at Keystone as well as a top competitor at the Next Finals, held at Killington, Vermont.
Gilman continued his winning streak into this season, beginning with being one of five top finishers from the Next Snow Search, "Star in the East Event," held on Dec. 9 at Wild Mountain Ski and Snowboard Area in Taylors Falls.
Other top finishers from the "Star in the East" include Scott Moline of Phelps, Wisconsin, Tyler Rivard of Taylors Falls, Keaton Studsrud of Forest Lake and Garrett Kalbakdalen of Taylors Falls.
These top qualifiers advanced to the Jan. 14 event as well.
Spinning his way to the top at the Super Qualifier, Gilman continued his winning streak, as the top male among 35 of the top athletes from ski areas across Minnesota and Eastern Wisconsin.
Gilman impressed the judges not only with his advanced snowboarding maneuvers, including technical rotations and inverts, but also with his attitude, character and sportsmanship. " Easton is a phenomenal rider, who has a bright future ahead of him in snowboarding," said Jessica Zalusky, G Team Competition Snowboarding Team Director.
As the top qualifying male, Easton has been invited to compete alongside the Nation's top skiers and snowboarders at the Next Snow All-Stars Event held at Steamboat, Colorado, February 2-3.
In addition, Easton has been invited to compete alongside 150 of the top riders from across North America at the Next Snow Finals in Killington, Vermont March 2-4.
Earlier this season, three of the top qualifiers from the Next Snow Search, "Star in the East Event" - Gilman, Rivard and Studsrud, joined the Midwest's premier snowboard team, G Team Competition Snowboarding, and train at Wild Mountain Ski and Snowboard Area under the direction of professional coaches.
As a members of the team, the snowboarders train alongside other riders of all ages and abilities at Wild Mountain's challenging terrain park. Throughout this season, the team gained tremendous support, including sponsorship from core, local snowboard shop, The FL Project of Forest Lake.
In addition to competing at the Next Snow Events, Gilman, Rivard and Studsrud have a full schedule of competitions, including USASA Upper Midwest Alt Series, USSA Revolution Tour along with other regional events at Wild Mountain Ski and Snowboard Area.
