She was born September 24, 1930, to Christ and Clara (Hogstrom) Jacobson on the family farm near Pelican Lake, rural Ashby.
She went to country school and graduated from Evansville High School. She then attended Moorhead State Teacher's College and taught school in rural Ashby.
September 3, 1950, she married Charles Anderson, of Evansville. They lived in the Twin Cities until 1961 when they bought a farm in Center City, Minn. They ran a hardware store in Shafer, Minn., until Charley died in 1991.
Florence eventually returned to Evansville and lived again in her "hometown" for 12 years.
Florence enjoyed bargain hunting, home decorating, crossword puzzles and giving people a "hard time." She was a loyal Twins fan, volunteered at the Evansville Historical Foundation and attended Faith Lutheran Church. The last few years she spent winters in California with her family.
Florence will be remembered for her wit and hospitality.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Vern Jahnke, of Claremont, CA; her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Taryn Anderson, of Portland, OR; grandsons: Chris Jahnke, of Playa Del Rey, CA, and Joel Jahnke, of Portland, OR; her sister, Effie Hotchkiss, of Williston, ND, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Charley; brothers: Clifford and Ruben and sister, Helen Jacobson.
Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church, the Evansville Historical Foundation or Operation Smile.
Services were Saturday, July 7, at Faith Lutheran Church, in Evansville, with Rev. Irving J. Arnquist officiating. Interment at Hillside Cemetery, in Center City, 1 p.m. Sunday, July 8.
