With a time of 16:08, Digger Carlson, 45, of White Bear Lake, became a four-time winner of the Lindstrom Loppet Karl Oskar 5K, run Saturday morning, July 14. Carlson narrowly edged John Leaf, 20, of Center City, who posted a time of 16:14.

Both men outpaced last year's winner, Anthony Peter, 26, of Chisago City, who finished at 16:40 in the 19th annual event hosted by Fairview Lakes Health Services.

For the second consecutive year, Laura Edlund, 21, Forest Lake, was the first female to cross the line. She posted a time of 19:35, followed by Laura Carlson, 44, of White Bear Lake at 20:00.

Of the record-breaking 540 entries, 492 runners and walkers of all ages crossed the finish line in this year's event. Complete race results are available at pickleevents.com.

Proceeds of the Loppet support nursing scholarships, mentoring programs in area schools, discount bike helmets and other youth-related programs. At this year's event, a check for $5,000 was presented to the Fairview Lakes Auxiliary in support of the auxiliary's Virginia Elizabeth Ferguson nursing scholarship.

"Sincere thanks go to the many community businesses who, each year provide financial assistance, refreshments and other services to help make the race possible," said co-chairmen Carla Norelius and Leanne Roggemann of Fairview Lakes Health Services added, "We look forward to runners joining us for our 20th annual event in 2008."
