With Karl Oskar Days in the rear view, it's time for Wannigan Days
I really hope that you and your family had a chance to get out and experience some or all of the terrific events throughout the weekend. I took in the queen coronation for the first time in a long while and they had a really good turn out. Congratulations to the new queen, Courtney Thompson, who was sponsored by Video Vault.
Congratulations also go out to Mike Mulvihill for finding Karl Oskar's snuff box. Mike found it after only one full day of searching. If you are wondering, Mike found the snuff box behind a green street sign in front of Lindstrom Video. Mike told me that the $500 will go into his son's college fund.
The kiddie parade had an amazing turn out this year. I think there were over 70 entries in this year's parade. Couple that with the queen's tug o war and Rockstock, you had a fun time.
The Lindstrom Loppet once again had a record amount of runners turn out this year. I believe Carla Norelius said there were somewhere around 540 runners or more that took part in the race. Yes, if you were wondering, Digger Carlson did win the Loppet for what seems like his eighty-first time in a row.
Besides a few sprinkles at the fireworks, the weekend was a complete success. I know I have said it here many times over, but thank you to all of the wonderful people who busted their tails to make this year's Karl Oskar Days one of the very best. You have no idea how many meetings and the countless man hours spent to make the celebration seem so smooth and flawless. Great job everybody!
Take a breath, relax and get your batteries charged for this week's celebration. I'm talking about Taylors Falls and St. Croix Falls 50th annual Wannigan Days. Wannigan Days is a somewhat smaller venue than Karl Oskar Days, but packs just as much of a punch. It starts today with tours of the Hydro Electric Dam that both cities share. Later that night, be sure to take in the talent show where the grand prize is $800.
Friday, a new sculpture called the River Spirit will be unveiled. While by the river, take a stroll on the new riverwalk trail. There will be bingo, a Miss/Little Miss Coronation and Sons of Norway all taking place on Friday.
Saturday brings the busiest day of the weekend. There is a craft fair, and the Pinery Boys will be on stage at the Festival Theater. There is a dedication for the timberframe bridge at 1 p.m. Also, at about the same time is something that sounds really neat to me. The first ever Tug across the St. Croix pits dignitaries from both sides of the river in a tug-o-war that actually spans across the river. The Minnesota group will be at Lions Park, north of Taylors Falls, and the Wisconsin team will be at the Lions Park in St. Croix Falls.
Saturday also has a terrific parade that starts at 6 p.m., in St. Croix Falls, and travels across the river to downtown Taylors Falls. The day is capped off with a street dance featuring the Lost Boys.
The good folks of Taylors Falls and St. Croix Falls would like to formally invite you and your family to come out and have some fun in the sun.
Last night (Monday), we had a first at our house. We were burglarized. Some sad excuse for a person decided to steal our above ground pool pump. I have priced pumps out in the past and they run around thirty to forty dollars. But instead of purchasing one at a store, this person took ours instead.
If you have an above pool that the pump recently stopped working on, and now your husband or boyfriend miraculously came up with one, you are welcome. I hope you enjoy our pump.
It takes a big person to steal other people's property. I now have the task of trying to teach my children that there are people out there that refuse to pay for things. And, that they will have to spend the rest of the summer without a pool they absolutely love, just so this thief's children can have a clean pool. Thanks. Thanks for nothing.
