From snow shovels to sunscreen all in one week, oh what a state
Keeping on the subject of Home Show drawings, we here at the Press are happy to announce Onne Mae Fisher, of Chisago City, has been drawn for a one year free subscription to the County Press. You can expect your free papers to start this week. Congratulations Onne Mae!
It seems impossible that one week ago we were digging out from one of the deepest snowfalls we have seen in years. Fast forward to this week and I have seen people in shorts, people riding bikes, motorcycles and convertibles with their tops down. Only in Minnesota. One thing I keep noticing is the steady amount of automobiles driving on the lakes. I realize that the ice in most places is plenty thick, but keep in mind that all of the brooks and streams that empty into the lakes are emptying lots of water onto and underneath the ice causing very unsafe conditions. If you still have the urge to ice fish, please walk to your favorite spot. Don't risk your life just for a couple of sunfish.
The Green Lake Association is asking your help this Sunday. The good folks have put together the first annual Green Lake Clean-Up. The intent is to clean up garbage on and around the lake left by fishermen and disrespectful visitors. You are invited to bring your four-wheeler, your snowmobile and your children. They will be handing out garbage bags in in various spots around. There will be a bonfire with hot dogs and hot chocolate available. Come on out, have a great time, and feel good knowing you made a difference. If you have any questions, please call Laurie Jo at 651-213-6545.
Now that we are in March, as we do every year, we will be starting our annual subscription renewal campaign. On page 2 of each edition of the Press during March there will be a special offer and a clip-out coupon that will allow you to renew your subscription and save $1.50. All of our subscriptions are due on May 1 of each year and the March promotion is our effort to get some of those done early and to help smooth out the volume we receive, and for helping us out you get the savings. We truly appreciate the support of our loyal subscribers and hope you will take advantage of the March offer.
Remember that March is Food Share Month. This is your chance to give your pantry a good spring cleaning and donate some non-perishable food items to the local food shelves. Without the support of our community, the food shelves would be non-existent. If you feel that your donation really doesn't make a difference, you are just plain wrong. And if you need some thanks for donating your food items, thank you. You really do make a difference.
