Chisago Lakes head boys' swimming and diving coach Jim Sauerbry is full of praise for the seniors who led his team in the 2006-07 season.

"This group of seniors is much more than just fast swimmers, they are role models for the underclassmen for the result of hard work," Sauerbry said.  "They consistently are the ones working to exhaustion, and then imploring the others to work to the same level they are.  They will be sorely missed.

That group of seniors led the Wildcats to another successful season this year. The CL swimmers went 9-1 in dual meets, with the only loss coming to Spring Lake Park. The 'Cats were second in the conference, first at Section True Team and seventh at State True Team. In the postseason, they were fifth at team sections and 19th at the State Meet, where eight Wildcats competed.

New Team Records

This year's team established seven new team records.

John Donahue, Tom McGurk,  Kevin Roggemann, and Hunter Heggerston set a new standard in the medley relay. Heggerston swam to school records in the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle events. Steve Boo is in the record book for the fastest 200 freestyle.

Boo, Ethan Karwand, Dave Willhite and Heggerston combined for a new mark in the 200 yard freestyle relay. In the 100 backstroke, John Donahue is the new standard bearer and Tom McGurk now holds the record in the 100 breast stroke.

All-Conference

Seven Wildcats earned North Suburban All-Conference honors. Roggemann, Karwand, Boo, Heggerston, McGurk and Andy Willhite swam to NSC Awards.

Mark Eagan, Dave Willhite and Brody Heggerston were named All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Hunter Heggerston, Justin Helps, Matt Turner and Boo were selected to the Academic All-Conference squad.

Team Awards

The Most Improved Award went to Clinton LaGrander and James Taylor was chosen the Rookie of the Year. Senior Hunter Heggerston got MVP recognition and classmate Matt Turner earned the Plumley Award. The Plumley Award, named after the first CL swim coach is given to the swimmer who, "Represents our sport well, more out of the water than in," the coach explained.

Next Year

While Sauerbry knows the seniors will be missed, he said, "I'm confident the juniors have seen what leadership can do for the team, and they won't let next year's underclassmen down."

Congratulations and good luck to the seniors. Congratulations to the entire team and to coach Sauerbry and his assistants for another fine season.
