Last Friday, I had the lucky job of covering a great group of kids working to make this Earth a better place. The 150 kids, along with five middle school teachers, called the Jaguar Core, wanted to make a difference in the world and I believe they have. Along with the middle school students, every class in the Chisago Lakes School District did something positive for the environment. Whether it was planting trees or selling compact fluorescent bulbs, the kids were excited and that was really great to see.

The goal of the Jaguar Core was to plant around 50 trees and sell 500 compact fluorescent bulbs. Well, they have easily surpassed those numbers with well over 100 trees planted and approaching 2,000 light bulbs sold. In fact, this year alone they hope to plant close to 3,000 trees in the Chisago Lakes area. Unbelievable.

Thank you so much to Pat Collins, Sally Lundholm, Katie Larson and Ed Wakefield for showing these kids how important this world we live in truly is. Thank you to all the parents and Friends of the Library who volunteered their time and efforts helping the kids. Most importantly, thank you to all of the great kids who put their hard work and great attitudes into such a worthwhile project.

Chisago City had a ceremony last week to name a new street. The street is located next to Video Vault and connects Highway 8 to Stinson Blvd. The name chosen by the city was John Silver Lane. The sign represents how hard he worked on the Highway 8 Task Force and how passionate he was about the area. Thank you to Mayor Don Taylor, City Administrator John Pechman, and Police Chief Stenson for the wonderful words. Thank you also to all who attended the ceremony and helped make it happen. I can tell you this, if my father were here he would be 10 shades of red from embarrassment but deep down he would be beaming. Thanks again.

I am writing today with three less wisdom teeth in my head and very surprised. Very surprised because it went so smoothly. I had no pain during or after the surgery and only had to take some ibuprofen for very minor discomfort. Writing this article each week sometimes allows the readers to relate to my latest dilemma going on in my life, which in turn leads to me hearing about their experiences. I must have heard 27 stories about wisdom teeth removal and 25 of those included dry socket. Luckily all went well and thanks for your input.
