The seven-team Section 7AA True Team meet was held Tuesday, May 8 at Grand Rapids. The Wildcat boys finished in fourth place and the Wildcats girls finished in fifth. Grand Rapids won both the boys and girls meets and will represent the section at the state True Team meet May 18 and 19 at Stillwater.

Girls

Brenna Coyle has the highest individual finish for the Wildcats, placing second in the discus. Coyle also finished fifth in the shot put. "Brenna's got a lot of talent and has had a pretty good year," said Wildcat head coach Ken Orwoll. "Also, she got a chance to see what the competition is like going into the regular section tournament at the end of May."

Lindsay Fowler-Wacholz came in third in the triple jump. "Lindsay's been pretty consistent all year," said Orwoll. "She's sitting well leading up to the conference tournament and has a good chance to be all conference."

Danielle Vitali and Kristen Tengwall finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 1600 meter run. Not too long after that, Vitali placed fourth in the 800 meter run. "Kristen ran well despite the fact that she had so little time between races," said Orwoll. "She's a tough kid, a leader and a good role model for the younger runners."

The Wildcats had some bad luck in the 4x800 meter relay, as Emmy Wold pulled up with what appears to be a stress fracture and the Wildcats ended up in sixth place. Orwoll was pleased with the performance of the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams, saying they "ran well." In his overall assessment of his team's performance, Orwoll said "The weather was great and the kids were fired up. I was pleased with the way we competed today."

Boys

Chris Golv picked up a lot of points for the Wildcats as he won the high jump with a jump of 6 feet, 2 inches and finished second in the long jump. "Chris had a fabulous day," said Orwoll. "We were happy to see him clear 6 feet, two inches in the high jump. It seems that the kids are able to pop out exceptional performances when the weather is nice like this. Chris is sitting good and looks ready for the conference tournament."

Taylor Lindeman won the discus with a throw of 134 feet, 8 inches after finishing seventh in the shot put. "Taylor did a nice job coming back to win the discus after not doing as well as he would have liked in the shot put. And he still has opportunities at the conference meet and section meet to show what he can really do in the shot."

The Wildcats got some bad news as one of their top performers was injured. Christian Swanberg was leading the 100 meter dash, but pulled up about ten meters from the finish with a hamstring injury and ended up finishing third. Swanberg was not able to compete in the 200 meter dash or either of the sprint relays, and his status for the rest of the season is uncertain.

"Christian picks up a lot of individual points for us," said Orwoll, "and is an important part of our relays. We hope he's healthy in time to compete in the end-of-season events coming over the next few weeks."

The 4x100 and 4x800 relay teams turned in their best times of the year. "The young kids in the 4x800 really ran well," said Orwoll. "Overall, as a team, we need to look at where we are and where we need to be over the next few weeks and work hard to get there."

The North Suburban Conference championship for both the girls and boys takes place at Irondale this week. Preliminaries in all events and finals in half the field events were scheduled to take place Tuesday, May 15. Today, Thursday, May 17, will feature finals in all the track events and the other half of the field events. Today's activities start at 4 p.m.
