William O'Brien State Park had 61 hunters participate in a Deer Management Hunt on opening weekend. The hunters took 54 white-tailed deer out of the park. With few predators, a management hunt is used to decrease the excessive population. Many volunteers helped with the hunt to make it a success.

One photo is of Matt Stefely, who shot his first deer at William O'Brien. Matt wanted to thank the park for his chance to hunt in the park and said it "was fun"!

The only female hunter, Monica Bakken, shot her first buck, an 11 pointer, at William O'Brien. She hopes to get drawn again for the special hunt next year.

Thirty-two hunters took at least one deer from the park. For the hunters who participated, this was a 52 percent success rate. The park naturalist Diane Hedin would like to thank the hunters for participating in the management hunt and making it a safe harvest experience for all.
