Wildcat swimmers fall to St. Louis Park despite Secord's first place finish
"We knew going in that St. Louis Park is a very fast team," said CL head coach Ed Wakefield. "We had girls swim some new events, or maybe events they had not swum this year. This gave the coaches a good opportunity to get some times on girls in other events. This could prove to be valuable information for upcoming meets.
"Sometimes, when deciding what to swim people in, you don't always put everyone in their best events. You have to look at what the other team has, also," the coach added.
Leah Secord was the lone Wildcat to take a first place. Her 59.17 in the 100 freestyle won the event. Secord also recorded a second in the 50 freestyle (27.42) and teamed with Heidi Willhite, Brogan Lee and Andrea Olson to take second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:53.47) and 400 freestyle relay (4:06.60).
Olson also swam to a pair of individual second place finishes. She recorded a 2:14.09 in the 200 freestyle and a 5:38.36 in the 500 freestyle. Brogan Lee collected the other individual CL second by finishing the 200 individual medley in 2:35.33. The other runner-up finish for the 'Cats came from Mallory Schneider, Sarah Kopp, Anna Stein and Rishawn Radziwill in the 200 medley relay (2:21.61).
The second Wildcat 200 medley relay team (Laura Goossen, Madeleine Coulter, Amanda Bean, Hanna Lee) finished third. Other thirds went to Stein (100 butterfly) and Kopp (100 breast stroke).
Earning points for fourth place finishes were Willhite, Kopp, Bean, B. Lee, Leah Hathaway, Schneider, Goossen and Radziwill.
"Brogan Lee did a great job in swimming the 200 IM for the first time this year and going our fastest time this season. Andrea Olson had a great 500. In fact all the 500 girls did great. We swam very well at St. Louis Park. They just had too many fast kids for us to keep up with, but we had a lot of season-best times," Wakefield commented.
Next up for the swimmers is the Simley Invitational, beginning at 1:00 Saturday, October 6. The Wildcat divers compete at Princeton Monday, October 8 starting at 5:00.
