Viking and Wildcat cross country runners compete in Duluth
"The meet conditions weren't ideal (it was 52 degrees, wet and very windy), but not too bad for running," said Viking head coach Brian Hasleiet. "Our kids really competed very well in an extremely tough field. The course is very demanding and our kids really stepped up and responded very well."
The girls team finished seventh in the 26-team race, well ahead of the other North Suburban Conference teams (Totino-Grace, St. Francis and Spring Lake Park) in the event. Sophomore Miranda Charley was the first Viking across the finish line. She finished 20th of 186 runners in the event.

"Our girls finished seventh, which was a pretty good day," Hasleiet added. "We finished fourth among our section teams and were right behind Forest Lake and Duluth East (who went to state last year) so things are looking good for us for our conference and section meet at the end of the year."

"Our boys finished 14th, which I thought was very good since we had a couple of our varsity runners running in age-group races. Mike Heidelberger and Ryan Norman once again had excellent finishes by finishing in the top 35," Hasleiet commented.
The Vikings next compete in the North Suburban Conference Meet at New Hope's Bassett Creek Park. The Tuesday, October 2 meet begins at 3:00.
