John Elwood Nelson, of Taylors Falls, died suddenly Tuesday, October 16 at the age of 77.

John was born August 16, 1930 at Woodville, Wis., to John "Jack" and Louise Nelson. He graduated from Woodville High School in 1948. February 19, 1955, he married Ann Hervas at Turtle Lake. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during Korea and received a Korean War Medal commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Korean War.

John loved the outdoors, his collection of family photos, listening to music, cutting wood, spending time with family, visiting friends, playing cards, delivering meals on wheels, was a member of the church council and was active in Lions.

He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Leonard Hervas, brother-in-law Mervin Anfinson and niece Trisha DeCosse.

He is survived by his wife Ann, sons Dave (Tammy), John (Barb), Karl (Linnae), seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sister Bev Anfinson, mother-in-law Clara Hervas, many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 19, at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church with Rev. Craig Lundstad-Vogt officiating. Music was provided by Mary Jo Zgonc. Interment was in the Hillside Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Society and the Heart Fund.
