If you like apples, Amador is the place to be this weekend
With the briskness in the air, kids starting school, and the Vikings season started, it can only mean one thing. It's Apple Festival time again. Yes, it's back. One of my very favorite celebrations is about to kick off. The 14th annual Apple Festival, put on by the good folks of Amador Township, gets started Sunday at 11 a.m. and runs until 4:30 p.m. If you are like my family, and can't wait for this year's crop of apples, wait no longer. You will be able to taste, touch, smell, and purchase virtually every make and model of apple product that exists. There is something about a fresh Honey Crisp apple in the fall.
Not only can you satisfy your apple cravings, you can also take in some history. There is a museum set up in the old school, where you can see pictures and artifacts on the history of Amador/Almelund. You can tour log cabins that are decorated in time periods reminiscent of the 1800's. There are games for the kids, crafts and food, food, and more food. Come on out, and make sure to bring your appetite.
The Chisago County Press is proud to announce that our annual Fall Sports Preview is out this week. Our sports editor, Dave Ambers along with Chuck Fitzer, have put together stories about each high school team that is partaking in this fall's season. The preview includes insight from coaches of both Chisago Lakes and North Branch, along with information on most of the young stars who participate. You will find photos of either seniors or returning letter winners and their season schedules. Throughout the preview, you will find local business ads on most pages. These are the businesses who are proud to sponsor your hometown teams and most have done so for years. Thank you to our advertisers for making the preview possible and for their undying support of high school sports. Good luck to all of our high school teams. I am sure you will all have great seasons.
As I am writing this, I am looking out the window at our American flag. I cannot believe that it has been six years since the 9/11 tragedy. This week I ask you to please take a moment and honor all of those whose lives were lost on 9/11, and those who have perished while defending our great country, and those who continue to fight for our freedom.
