The host team took second place in the Chisago Lakes Volleyball Invitational Saturday, September 8.

The Wildcats opened pool play with a 25-22, 25-19 win over a fine Deer River team. In the second round, it took three games, but CL handed the New Richmond, Wisconsin Lions a 25-20, 23-25, 15-6 loss. In the final feline fray, the 'Cats beat the Princeton Tigers 25-15, 26-24.

In the Championship match, the Wildcats met the Deer River Warriors, again. The Warriors won that battle with the Wildcats 25-13, 16-25, and 15-12.

Wildcat head coach Katie Larson commented that the second place finish was, "a little disappointing because they were the first team that we beat in pool play. But, the girls played well most of the day and it was a good learning experience for them."

CL 3, Benilde-St. Margaret's 2

The Wildcats ran their conference record to 2-0 with a five-game win at Benilde Tuesday, September 11.

"Last night was a nail-biter!" Larson said. "We won the first game (25-16) with great momentum and then our passing fell through, causing us to lose the next two (21-25, 14-25) and then we turned it up and took the fourth and fifth games (25-19, 15-13).

"The girls had to play hard to win and this was another test of our ability at this stage in the season. And they did the job! That was a big win for us and the girls should all be very proud of themselves.

"Courtney Fautsch had an amazing night. She ended the match with 28 of the 63 kills for the team. Mackenzie Maher had 55 setting assists and, again, was a key player. Also Rachel Nelson and Krista Swanson put up some big blocks," coach Larson added.

The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to St. Francis tonight, Thursday, September 20, before hosting North Branch Tuesday, September 25.
