Wildcats who earned second place finishes included the 200 medley relay team (Mallory Schneider, Sarah Kopp, Anna Stein, Leah Hathaway), Secord (200 freestyle), Willhite (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Alex Thomsen (diving), Hathaway (500 freestyle), Laura Goossen (100 backstroke), Kopp (100 breast stroke) and 400 freestyle relay (Stein, Rishawn Radziwill, Goossen, Hathaway).
"Spring Lake Park was a fun meet. We thought it would be a close meet, but we pretty much ended up running away with it," said Wildcat head coach Ed Wakefield. "It was nice to get off to a winning record in the conference with such a young team.
"After getting beat in the medley relay, going one, two, three in the in the 200 freestyle was a great turning point. Sophomore Brogan Lee had possibly the best meet of her life. The 200 and 400 freestyle relays should be good relays for us this year," Wakefield added.
Chisago Lakes at Irondale
Against Irondale, the Wildcats managed only two firsts in the 12-event meet. Thomsen won the diving (177.35) and Kopp was first in the 100 breast stroke (1:24.24)
Finishing second for the 'Cats were Lee (200 and 100 freestyle), Cassie Schlegel (diving), Olson (500 freestyle) and Willhite, Lee, Olson and Secord (200 and 400 freestyle relays).
Coach Wakefield said, "Irondale is a very fast team. It was our team's first experience swimming in a four-lane pool in a couple of years. The divers were great. We did not swim our best. We were tired from a tough workout the day before. But, Irondale was really fast, anyway."
The Wildcats host Totino-Grace tonight (Thursday, September 20) and travel to St. Louis Park next Thursday. Both meets get underway at 6 p.m.
