E Cycling partners with hardware stores, etc. to make disposal simple
E Cycling has drop-off services available at their Rush City headquarters, but they are continually expanding opportunities to drop off electronics at a variety of locations around the area: Doug's TV in Chisago City and Ace Hardware locations in Forest Lake, Wyoming and most recently added, Cambridge and Pine City.
Schultz said they are also working to add Ace Hardware in North Branch to the list, as well as points further south into Washington County and west into Isanti County.
"All of our drop-off sites are doing well," Schultz said. "The businesses are excited to be a part of this."
E Cycling also hosts community clean-up days, including a clean-up day in North Branch April 26 in the city hall parking lot, Rush City Clean Up Day May 3 and Chisago City/Lindstrom Clean Up Day May 17.
Fees for electronic recycling are one of the few things going down in cost. Current rates for in-county residents at E Cycling Solutions are $4 for a computer system, $10 for a TV over 25" and free recycling of computer monitors, TVs under 25", VCRs, DVD players and cell phones.
Other accepted items include printers, copiers, scanners, telephones, microwaves, medical equipment and office furniture.
Schultz said even the small fees for recycling many electronics may continue to go down. E Cycling is able to keep prices competitive through subsidizes from Chisago County.
E Cycling Solutions offers business/commercial recycling, generally at .25/pound, depending on the nature of the material.
Schultz said it took them a while to research before opening the recycling business in January. He and Bergeron attended a recycling convention last fall in Georgia, where they attended several classes to learn about the business and its numerous rules and regulations.
E Cycling goes beyond the collecting phase of recycling to actually recycling materials it receives.
"Electronics are the largest percentage of the waste stream right now," Schultz said. "We don't want this landfilled - period."
E Cycling partners with a large recycling company in the metro to disassemble and recycle electronic parts.
Computers are recycled and broken down for usable parts, but E Cycling can first provide data security to wipe out all personal data from the hard drive.
Schultz is proud to be a part of various fundraisers that use E Cycling services. Kanabec County 4-H, church groups and other non-profit organizations have set up their own clean-up days with E Cycling. Fees are increased slightly and the extra money is kept by the non-profit group.
E Cycling has three permanent employees, but has grown so fast in its first few months of operation, Schultz is confident they will add more employees within the year. They also rely on temporary employees who help out during clean-up days.
Pricing and upcoming clean-up events being sponsored by E Cycling are listed on their web site, www.ecyclingsolutions.com, or available by calling (651) 815-0423.
