Don't miss your chance to take in Harmony in the Park one last time
Finally the news came, and it was like watching the wall come down in Germany. Brett traded. Could it be? Would he finally be the next great Viking quarterback? Move over Tommy Kramer and Spurgeon Wynn, he has got to be a Viking. No... he has been traded to the New York Jets. Could the Vikings have gone 16-0 with Favre as quarterback? Details at ten. What local stores are doing with 50,000 number four Viking jerseys? Details at ten. Finally, we can get back to some real news like, are Miley Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan dating the same boy? Life is good.
I hope you had a chance to see some vintage tractors last weekend at the Almelund Threshing Show. I was there for most of Saturday, and it looked like the rest of the county was also. The last few years have been blistering hot, so this year's high 70's felt absolutely perfect.
Thank you to the good folks that put on the Threshing Show. Orchestrating that many vendors and that many tractor owners can not be a simple task, but it all flowed perfectly. Hopefully next year's weather will be a carbon copy of this year's.
As I wrote last week, Ki Chi Saga Days are just around the corner. If you are interested in entering any of the contests, like a pie baking contest, a skateboarding competition, or the 5K / 15K run walk, now is the time. In this week's Press, you will find entry forms for all competitions related to Ki Chi Saga Days.
We are getting close to the end of Lindstrom's Harmony in the Park concert series. There are just a few weeks left for you to catch some really great acts. Next week will feature Neighbors, an easy listening group that appeals to all ages. Finally, "Armidilo Jump-Rockin Rythem & Blues" band will cap off the 2008 concert season. I have heard from some people that have seen the Armidilos, and they say they put on a wonderful show. Both concerts are free, just bring your lawn chairs and enjoy.
If you are a wine lover, this weekend you will be in wine heaven. Winehaven Winery in Chisago City is hosting its 10th annual Rhubarb Wine Frenzy this weekend. For those of you who have never tasted Winehaven wine, you do not know what you are missing. For those of you who enjoy Winehaven wine, but have never tried their rhubarb wines, you will be hooked. I am not a wine snob by any means, but I can tell you that I have had the Rhubarb and the Strawberry Rhubarb wine and both are just terrific. Check out their ad in this edition of the Press for times.
If you are a parent of a school-aged child, you know school is fast approaching. How you may say? Well, in our house there is a sense of desperation in our kids. Desperation? Desperate to get as much playing as possible in before the first school bell rings. If there is not "something to do", you can just see the look of, well this day is lost, in their faces.
As an adult, I have found that my internal clock is finely tuned. By that I mean, I wake each morning at 5:51 a.m. without the aid of an alarm clock. With the kids, their internal clock is fine-tuned by the clock in a building they can only see from the outside, the Primary School. Those are some powerful clocks the school district has invested in.
