Ki Chi Saga Days are here, get the details in this edition of the Press
I know it is cliche, but you can find something for everyone this weekend. For instance, there is a family picnic, city wide garage sales, a fishing tournament, an ice cream social, a street dance, fireworks, a car show, a 5K and 15K run/walk, a hunt for Moberg's Bike Horn, a skateboarding competition, and of course a giant parade. I have left out plenty of other activities, so for a full list of things please see the 2008 Ki Chi Saga schedule of events on pages 6 and 7 of this edition of the Press.
Along with the schedule, you will find ads from many of this year's Ki Chi Saga sponsors. These great businesses are instrumental in making these summer celebrations so special. Whether they are sponsoring one of the many events, or participating, Ki Chi Saga Days would be nothing without them. We here at the Press would like to thank them for all their contributions as sponsors and community businesses.
If you have been by the senior high school recently, you have noticed a big change. The new football/soccer stadium is really coming along. There now are bleachers, a press box, and artificial grass. I can not believe how quickly the stadium has taken shape. It is an absolutely beautiful complex that will rival any high school around. The new softball fields that surround the school are also taking shape. The school district should be proud of its new additions, both on the sports level and scholastic levels.
You would have to be blind to not know there was a local election around the corner. It seems like every other home in the area has signage that is telling you to vote for this person or that person. Unfortunately, some politicians feel the need to post their signs in places they shouldn't. You will see signs on street corners in the right of way. You will see signs in vacant lots. You will see signs (this one is my favorite) in front of empty homes for sale.
Yes, I understand that the more recognition you have in the public eye, the better your chances to win an election, but littering empty homes for sale with political signs seems a little much.
Keeping on the subject of politics, we have an important date fast approaching. I am speaking about the primary on Tuesday, September 9. As you can see by the rainbow of colors on our roadways, there is an abnormal amount of candidates this year. The sheer volume of candidates gives you even more reason to get out and vote. If you are passionate about a certain candidate, and would like to see that person in office, you need to vote in the Primary. If you think that your favorite candidate will be on the ballot in November, think again. You need to get out and vote in the Primary, because if the candidate that you don't want to see in office wins the Primary, you only have yourself to blame. We have a great group of people running for election this year including some incumbents that have done admirable jobs.
If you have children that attend school, then you also have been on a scavenger hunt like us. For the most part, I have been successful in my quest of school supplies. But there is one item that eludes me like a Sumatran Rhinoceros (look it up, it does too exist). I am talking about the ever elusive spiral notebook. What? Everyone sells a spiral notebook. Oh no my friend, this spiral notebook is special, it can't have any perforations on the pages. Commonplace one would think right? Wrong. I have 237 miles on my car to prove it. After searching and searching, I have finally located the Idol, er I mean notebook. Yes that was me with a stack of about 40 non-perforated spiral notebooks running out of the store giggling like a school girl. I have it all planned out, we will give five to my son, 34 will be sold on Ebay, and one will be mounted above our fireplace.
