What a spectacular weekend Chisago City had for its Ki Chi Saga Celebration. If I am remembering correctly, in the last few years, the weather has been scorching hot. This year was quite the opposite. We had a nice breeze with cool sunshine. Who could ask for more?

I think that with the high winds we had on Friday, most people thought the fireworks would be called off. If that was you, you missed a terrific fireworks show that ended with a huge finale.

Saturday, I ventured up to the park and was surprised at how many people were at the craft fair. It was the busiest I have seen in years. Then I heard it, "Thank you...Thank you very much". It was Elvis. No wonder there was such a huge turnout. Steve Marcio was doing his best Elvis Experience and the crowd was eating it up.

From all accounts, this year's Ki Chi Saga Days was a huge hit. Everything flowed smoothly and judging by the looks on people's faces, they were having a great time.

Thank you to Doris Zacho and all the Ki Chi Saga Days Committee for doing such a great job this year. It seems repetitive, but I am telling you, these people are the sole reason we have these great celebrations in our area. We really have no idea how many hours they spend in the off season working on next year's celebrations.

Thanks again for a wonderful way to cap off a great summer.

On the subject of thanking people. I would like to thank the members of the Chisago County Highway Department that signed up to volunteer in the Iowa flood clean-up. I speak with my grandmother who resides in one of the flood towns, and she tells me that things are slowly getting back to normal. The good folks from the Highway Department were willing and ready but never received a call from Iowa. It is nice to know that they have neighbors that are there for them, and hopefully they would be there for us if needed.

In this edition of the Press we will once again feature our Voter's Guide. In the guide, you will find local politicians and hopefuls answers to various pertinent questions. We hope this sheds some light to our readers on where each of the politicians stand on pressing issues. As always, along with the guide, you are encouraged to contact each candidate with further questions. Trust me, it is not weird to call a candidate and ask for their opinions. It is these people after all, that will be making decisions about your tax dollars. They should embrace phone calls from the people, if they do not, well you might want to re-think your candidate.

Remember, September 9 is a very big day for voters. It is the day to support your candidate and make sure they move on to the general election in November. If your candidate fails to move on and you forgot to vote, well you only have yourself to blame. Please get out and vote.

Tomorrow (Friday), I would like to invite everyone to North Branch. The Wildcat football team kicks off their season against lifelong rival North Branch. Over the years there have been some truly great games between the two schools and this year should prove to be just as heated. Both teams are excited about the upcoming season. Let's show our support for our local team whether it is Chisago Lakes or North Branch, it should prove to be a great game. Remember that County Road 14 is closed, so take County Road 19 to Highway 30 (old 61), north to North Branch.
