Cambridge-Isanti-Mora 8, Chisago Lakes 3

Cambridge-Isanti-Mora broke open a close game with a five-goal outburst in the last three minutes of the third period to beat the Wildcat girls' hockey team 8-3 in the season opener at the Mora Civic Center Tuesday, November 18.

The Wildcats' first line scored all three of the Wildcat goals. Trailing 2-0 with three minutes left in the second period, Sam Lorr got a hold of the puck behind the Bluejacket net and fed the puck to Marisa Peterson in the low slot. Peterson one-timed a low shot past the goalie to pull the Wildcats within one.

The Wildcats tied the game up just 30 seconds into the third period. Lorr again had the puck behind the Bluejacket net, and this time passed it out to Krista Liebsch in front. The goalie stopped Liebsch's initial shot, but Peterson put the rebound away to make the score 2-2. The Bluejackets tied it up halfway through the period, but the Wildcats scored again just two minutes later. Liebsch took a pass into the neutral zone and drove into the Bluejacket zone. She dropped a pass back to Lorr. The Bluejacket goaltender stopped Lorr's shot, but Liebsch scored on the rebound to make it 3-3.

Unfortunately, the roof caved in for the Wildcats in the last three minutes of the game as the Bluejackets turned a close, exciting game into a blowout.

Forest Lake 5, Chisago Lakes 1

Forest Lake scored three goals in the first period and cruised to a 5-1 win over the Wildcats last Saturday, November 22 at the FLAAA Sports Center. The Wildcats avoided the shutout when Krista Liebsch scored halfway through the third period. Marisa Peterson had the puck behind the Ranger net, came around the left side and tried to stuff it in. The puck slid through the crease right on to the stick of Liebsch, who scored with a nice forehand shot.

"We're a good skating, hard working team," said Wildcat head coach Jason Mahlen. "Our first line has been doing all of the scoring so far. If we can find a way for some others to step up and put the puck in the net, we're going to be a pretty good team this year."

For both games, the Wildcats were without the services of their most experienced goalie, freshman Jamie Dobosenski. Dobosenski sat out with a broken finger. At this point, team officials are not certain when Dobosenski will return.
