Wildcat girls lack intensity in conference loss to Totino
Trailing 1-0 late in the first period, Krista Liebsch scored on a rebound off of Jess Lorr's initial shot to tie the game 1-1. The Wildcats took the lead halfway through the second period as Sam Lorr scored a rebound goal after a shot by Ashley Gibson. The Eagles tied it up a few minutes later, and then scored the winner in the third period to put the game away.
The Wildcats split the season series with the Eagles, and Wildcat head coach Jason Mahlen wasn't too pleased about it. "After playing some high-intensity games over the past couple of weeks, we just didn't seem to have the intensity in this one. We beat them at home earlier this year. I felt that we were the better team and should have beaten them twice."

SECTION PREVIEW
The Wildcats (8-16-1 overall, 7-6-1 conference) finished third in the North Suburban conference this season, behind first-place Benilde-St. Margaret's and second-place Irondale. They were seeded eighth in the Section 7AA tournament, and will have the unenviable task of traveling north to play third-ranked and top-seeded Grand Rapids in the opening round of the section playoffs today, Thursday, February 7, at 7 p.m.
The Wildcats, always ready for a tough challenge, appear to have some extra incentives to win this one. Word has been floating around that assistant coaches Jim Gawreluk and Mark Gibson will have their heads shaved by the players if the Wildcats manage to pull off the upset. And head coach Jason Mahlen, to top it off, will allow the girls to dye his hair any color or combination of colors they want if Chisago Lakes/Pine City comes up with the big win.
The Wildcats are hosting the section semifinals this year, with games at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. this Saturday at Chisago Lakes Arena. If the Wildcats win Thursday, they'll play the winner of the Proctor vs. Forest Lake game this Saturday, February 9 in the 1:30 game. If they win that game, they'll move on to the section championship game next Tuesday, February 12 in Cloquet.
