CL 66 Benilde St. Margaret's 3

For the second year in a row, Benilde-St. Margaret's is fielding a one-man varsity team. But that one man, Alex Peck, finished second at the state Class AA individual championship at 103 pounds last season. This season, at 119 pounds, Peck beat the Wildcats' Mike Michaelson 13-7 to get the Red Knights' only three points last Thursday, February 7 at Chisago Lakes. Wildcats won 11 matches by forfeit and there were two double forfeits, making the final score Chisago Lakes 66, Benilde-St. Margaret's 3.

"Mike did a nice job," said Wildcat head coach Shawn Frederixon. "It took him a little while to realize that he could compete with Peck. Once he did, he got a couple of takedowns. But he didn't have quite enough time to catch up."

Chisago Lakes 33, Cooper 31

Troy Montague's pin at 215 pounds gave the Wildcats an insurmountable 33-25 lead on their way to a 33-31 win over Cooper last Thursday, February 7 at Chisago Lakes. Cooper had come back from a 27-6 deficit to pull within 27-25. But Montague's pin picked up six points for the Wildcats to seal the victory in their final regular season match.

"This was a good match to end the regular season on," said Frederixon. "At 112, Pao Thao beat a kid he lost to in overtime earlier this season. Jake Bowersox had a nice win at 125. He controlled his whole match and kept the match rolling for us. And once again, our big guy, Troy, sealed the victory for us with a big pin. He got his first takedown late in the period, turned the kid over and pinned him. He just went out there and took care of it."
