The Chisago Lakes Middle School Math League finished its season with a first place finish in the East Central Division and placed eighth out of over 200 teams in the state.

Division medal winners for the CL team included: Tyler Hoffman, who captured first place in the EC, Riley Frost- second, Taylor Streitz- fourth, Charlie Wilcox- fifth, Hamp Smith- seventh and Taylor Delzer- eighth.

All of these competitors finished in the top 200 out of over 1,200 individual competitors in the state, led by Hoffman, who placed 40th.

"The reason the team placed so high was that all of its members were strong competitors and are excellent mathletes," said Math League coach Diane Spychalla.

The team ended its season Feb. 7 when five mathletes went to the MathCounts regional competition in St. Cloud.

The team placed third out of 15 teams in the competition, with Hoffman and Frost placing in the top 16.

Along with the division medal winners, the Math League team this year also included: Jeremy Bastyr, Crystal Erickson, Noah Froberg, Sami Fusco, Trevor Granfors, Megan Grove, Kara Herr, Matt Hoffman, Heather Kanada, Ashely Kapaun, Molly Sandstrom, Christian Schmidt, Shane Soukup and Becky Harwell.
