On Jan. 10, ninth and tenth grade students at Chisago Lakes High School had the unique opportunity to hear from an African-American speaker the historical perspective about black history.

Students and staff stared in awe as speaker Tony Carr shared pieces of black history often overlooked, using both a slide show and historical memorabilia.

Carr was brought in as part of an effort to increase students' awareness of human struggles and to celebrate the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Students were seen afterwards shaking hands with the speaker and asking personal questions regarding stereotypes, diversity and cultural experiences.
