CL TRIANGULAR

Chisago Lakes 50, Irondale 20

Travis Kammerer reached a career milestone, Clay Olson and Dylan Hoyt had exciting 3-2 victories. And Derek Silbernagel beat a long-time nemesis; as the Wildcats easily beat conference opponent Irondale 50-20 in the opening match of the Chisago Lakes Triangular Thursday, January 17.

Kammerer (135) beat Matt Douvier to record his 25th career pin. Olson (171) worked hard the entire match to earn his win. And Derek Silbernagel (160) finally gave the Wildcats a win over Todd Hanson, who's been pretty tough on the Wildcats over the past couple of years.

Hoyt (215) had the most exciting finish of the day. He trailed 2-1 with time running out in the final period. But with five seconds remaining, Hoyt scored a reversal for two points and a 3-2 victory.

"We came out and went after it," said Wildcat head coach Shawn Frederixon. "We did what we were supposed to do in this match. It was good to see us pull away."

Henry Sibley Invitational

The Wildcats had a rough time last Saturday, January 19, finishing sixth at the eight-team Henry Sibley Invitational. "We didn't wrestle as well as we could have," said Wildcat head coach Shawn Frederixon. "This was a learning experience and, hopefully, a gut check for our guys. We'll see how we respond this week."

Mike Michaelson (119) and Troy Montague (189) finished second in their weight classes. "Mike and Troy both had a good tournament. They each lost their championship match to a ranked kid. Mike's been having a good season. One of the things I like is that he doesn't panic when he gets behind early. He has the confidence he can come back. Troy had a couple of pins before his final match. He needs tough matches like the one he had in his final match in order to get ready for sections."
